Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
