Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
